1. Pre care - When you receive your flowers, keep them in a cool place until you are ready to place them in a vase. (roses must not be left out of water for more than 1 hr)

2. Prepare to condition your flowers - Find a shallow basin (sink) and fill it with warm water so stems can be cut underwater. Cut the packaging away from the flowers. Strip the foliage below the container waterline, leaves in water will promote bacterial microbial growth that may limit water uptake by the flower. Cut the stems of flowers diagonally underwater * with a sharp knife (cut off one to two inches). Cutting underwater decreases the chance of air getting into the stem, causing a blockage that reduces water uptake. Place immediately into vase or container.

3. Use clean vases with clean water - Add the food sachet to a clean vase filled with FRESH, room-temperature water. Don't shock your flowers with cold or hot water. It is very important to follow the mixing directions!

4. Re-cut stems and change water often - Re-cut flower stems regularly and change the vase water every two days - your flowers will look better and last longer. Note if you have a mixed vase arrangement gently cradle the flowers in one hand while you carefully tip the container with the other hand to drain the water. Any flowers that move out of place can be rearranged after the container is refilled with fresh water.

5. Other inspirational ideas - Your once appropriate sized vase may be too big once you cut the stems. Move to a smaller vase and rearrange or separate your flowers into different groupings and move them into different rooms of your home as the stems get shorter and the vase gets smaller. When they are coming to the end of their life cycle, cut the stems 1/2" from the blooms and float them in a bowl of water (maybe accompanied by some floating candles, stones, or marbles).

6. Enjoy weeks of pleasure - Using this process I have enjoyed all kinds of flowers - even roses - for two weeks or longer.

7. Other considerations -

Keep flowers in cooler places away from direct sunlight, breezes, heating or cooling vents, ceiling fans or on top of heat sources such as televisions or radiators.

Keep flowers away from Ethylene gas, which occurs naturally in ripening fruit, decaying foliage and combustion of organic compounds such as gas stoves or cigarettes. To avoid the detrimental effects of ethylene gas avoid placing flowers in any of these areas.

ROSES: If a rose wilts prematurely in your arrangement, remove the affected rose and fill your sink with several inches of warm water. While holding the stem under water, cut about one inch from the bottom of the stem with a sharp knife. Float the rose on the water surface so that the stem’s end remains slightly below the surface. In approximately one hour the rose should revive and you can place it back in your arrangement.

Here is a Home made recipe for fresh flower preservative

To 1 quart of lukewarm water add:

· 2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice

· 1 Tablespoon sugar

· 1-2 teaspoons chlorine bleach

Another option is add ½ water and ½ sprite or 7 up to a clean vase. (this recipie must be changed every 2 days since ther is no bacteria killer in this recipie.)
